Edmonds Arts Commission presents Northwest favorite Adefua, in the concert series’ season opener Sunday, July 6 in Edmonds’ City Park.
Adefua African Music &Dance Company presents a lively and colorful program of African music, dance and rhythm. Since 1986, Adefua has provided cultural entertainment to the general public and is well know nationally for their gregarious rhythms rooted in African tribal and European court dances presenting traditional west African music, dance and song.
Founder Afua N’Diaye’s training with teachers from Africa, the Caribbean and the U.S. allows her to create and choreograph African movements that flow with the rhythms of the drums, with results that are distinctively African. For the past 30 years, N’Diaye, a dedicated and well-known cultural arts innovator in the Pacific Northwest, has taught drumming, dance and song to children and adults. She uses the beat of the drum to bridge cultures and promote cultural education and understanding.
Concerts are an hour long and are presented by the Edmonds Arts Commission on behalf of the Edmonds City Council and are accessible to persons with disabilities. American Sign Language (ASL) translation is provided at this concert only.
