The hit musical “Annie” has been adapted many times over the years. While you enjoy its latest incarnation by Edmonds’ Driftwood Players, meet the creator of the seminal play.
Martin Charnin, who was also the first director of the original production of “Annie,” will be hosting an audience talk-back session at the end of performances by the Players, Dec. 4 and 11.
Charnin and cast members will answer questions about the show, Broadway and more.
Charnin began his Broadway Career as one of the Jets in the musical “West Side Story.” His Broadway production of Annie, likely his most renowned accomplishment in theater, celebrated its 20th anniversary in 1997 with a return to Broadway. He subsequently directed the national tour.
Charnin has been the director, lyricist, composer, librettist or producer for over 75 theatrical productions including “Annie,” “Loose Lips” and “La Strada.” He has received four Tony nominations, two Tony awards, six Grammy Awards, three Emmy Awards, three Gold Records, two Platinum Records, six Drama Desk Awards, a Peabody Award for Broadcasting, and most recently another Grammy Award for Jay-Z’s rap album “Hard Knock Life,” which samples a song from “Annie.”
