Thousands of elementary school students are working toward reading goals and could win free tickets to an Everett AquaSox baseball game in June.

The month-long Hit a Home Run in School program is encouraging students at 90 Snohomish County area schools to become lifelong readers. Sponsored by Wells Fargo, the program helps motivate students to establish learning goals and rewards them for meeting their objectives.

“It’s an opportunity to have a positive, measurable impact on reading in our local classrooms,” said Lori Husa, district manager for Wells Fargo Community Banking in Northern Washington.

Each student who meets his or her Hit a Home Run in School goal will receive a free ticket to one of six Everett AquaSox games in June, in addition to vouchers for a free stadium meal and a free AquaSox baseball.

About 20,000 students from King, Skagit and Snohomish Counties are expected to complete the program this year.
