The post-season honors keep coming for Jackson High School’s state championship baseball team.

On Tuesday night, June 13, the Mill Creek City Council issued a proclamation recognizing the team on its undefeated season that gained the school a No. 2 national ranking.

The proclamation declared July 1-8 as Jackson High School Baseball Team Week in Mill Creek, to coincide with the local Little League’s all-star tournament.

“No matter where you go, you will always be our hometown heroes,” Mayor Donna Michelson said.

Jackson coach Alan Briggs and three members of the squad – juniors Riley Lillibridge and Michael Robertson and senior Joe Markovich – were on hand Tuesday to accept the honor.

“We’re very humbled by this,” said Briggs, who took over as coach just before the start of the season. “It was a privilege for me to be their coach.”

The Snohomish County Council on June 7 honored Jackson with a resolution of commendation. Briggs and about a dozen players attended the recognition ceremony.

“They were undefeated and ranked as high as second in the nation,” said County Councilmember Dave Gossett, who represents Mill Creek. “They played four games in the championship and only gave up four runs. If only the Mariners were doing so well.”

The County Council’s resolution notes that Jackson and two other schools in the county all won state championships on May 27 and that day should be known as “the day of champions” in Snohomish County.
