Spaghetti fundraiser set for May 15

Join other seniors by supporting the Greater Mill Creek Senior Program Spaghetti Luncheon Fundraiser noon to 2 p.m. on Friday, May 15 at theNorth Creek Retirement Community, 1907 201st Pl. SE.

The program includes a USO theme with a live Swing Band. Come and dance or just come to watch. The suggested donation is up to $20 For directions call 425-483-8927.

Proceeds support education, recreation and health care to seniors in the area.

Learn about compost May 13

The Mill Creek Garden Club will have its last meeting of the season on at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 13 in the Cedar Room at the Mill Creek Country Club.

Guest speaker Kelan Moynagh from the Yelm Earthworm &Casting Farm will present the program for this meeting. Learn the most innovative and informative way to recycle food products and yard waste.

Watch your plants and they will thrive with this all-natural composting method.

The group will also install the next season’s officers, award a scholarship to a graduating high school senior, and present a contribution to Mill Creek Elementary school to improve its court yard gardens and wall art.

Membership in the Garden Club is open to all serious or social gardeners. Annual dues are $25 and it’s time to register for next season’s meetings. Monthly meetings run from September through May. County seeks volunteers

Snohomish County is seeking citizens to serve on its Housing and Community Development Technical Advisory Committee.

The county receives funds annually from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and is recruiting eligible persons to serve on a technical advisory committee to review applications for affordable housing, public facilities and public service projects that will benefit low-income and homeless individuals.

Meetings will be held three to four days per year during the next three years. Citizens and representatives from the following groups are needed: low income, homeless or formerly homeless, disabled, minority and senior citizens.

Individuals or agencies representing these groups may submit letters of interest. Include your name, address, home phone, work phone, category represented, areas of experience and reasons for wanting to serve.

Current and previous advisory committee members may apply. The deadline for applications is July 31. Letters should be sent to:

Sounders player to speak May 7

Special guest Taylor Graham of the soccer team Seattle Sounders FC will share a few words of wisdom for today’s youth at the Youth Challenge Awards Ceremony to be held Thursday, May 7 at 7 pm at the Edmonds Community College, Triton Union Building.

For the past two months, community members have been nominating Snohomish County middle and high school students for their community service, courage, creativity, environmental service, inspiration and leadership.

The Rotary Club of Lynnwood with the Journal Newspapers, CityBank and cooperation with local schools and Parks and Recreation Departments will join to honor the finest young people of Snohomish County.
