Carols and read-ins at Shoreline church
St. Barnabas Anglican Church will present its annual Festival of Lessons and Carols at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16, at 2340 N. 155th St. in Shoreline.
The service consists of nine Bible readings tracing the history of redemption, from the fall of mankind to the nativity of Jesus Christ. A related carol is sung following each reading. St. Barnabas Seasonal Choir will sing an old Bohemian carol, “Let Our Gladness Know No End,” and an arrangement of John Rutter’s “Angel’s Carol.” “Gesu Bambino” by Pietro Yon will be sung by sopranos Yvette Chambers and Margaret Purvine. Music director Jerry van der Pol and his pianist wife, Gerry, will join to play a piano/organ duet, “A Christmas Gloria,” before the service. Refreshments will follow the service.
St. Barnabas’ festival is based on the Service of Nine Lessons and Carols, first planned by Bishop Benson of Truro (later Archbishop of Canterbury) in 1880.
