Edmonds nurse wins March of Dimes award
Kathryn Ogden is responsible for arranging more than 600 nursing-student experiences every year at Swedish Hospital in Seattle.
For her efforts, the Edmonds nurse was honored at the March of Dimes Nurse of the Year banquet in Bellevue Dec. 6.
Ogden, as a program coordinator at the hospital, has built a strong reputation in the community based on years of collaboration with faculty to ensure students, nursing schools and the medical center receive what is needed to provide the best student experience, officials said.
She has revitalized the faculty and student orientation process using an online orientation program.
While nursing students are working at Swedish, she makes rounds to ensure the student’s orientation was sufficient and the experience rewarding. In this role, Ogden has recruited many of the students into Nurse Technician roles and many are hired in Registered Nurse positions after graduation, helping sustain a pipeline for the nursing workforce.
Snohomish County deploys to Oregon
In the midst of flood damage here, Snohomish County officials are lending a helping hand to Beaverton, Ore, where flood damage was also severe.
On Dec. 7, the American Red Cross called for the Snohomish County Chapter’s emergency response vehicle to deploy to Oregon to support flood relief operations there.
The vehicle can transport as many as 400 hot meals and beverages in a single routing.
Red Cross volunteers Steve Taylor of Gold Bar and Steven Place of Everett are assigned as the Snohomish County Chapter’s ERV crew.
MSHH Easter effort set for early launch
As Edmonds prepares to celebrate Christmas and welcome in the New Year, the MS Helping Hands organization is already looking ahead to Easter.
The organization has to start early, officials said.
MSHH will again be collecting recycled and new stuffed animals to be donated to various children’s organizations for distribution.
Citizens might remember that MSHH collected and shipped over 45,000 recycled and new stuffed animals to the children who survived the Katrina and Rita Hurricanes and the big storm that hit Florida.
This year’s 2008 campaign will benefit children at Easter time in Easter Baskets put together for distribution by the many churches and other organizations, officials said.
The stuffed animals can be dropped off at the Donor Closet located at 409 Howell Way, Edmonds, WA 98020 on Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
