Firefighters recognized

for service

Snohomish County Fire District 7 firefighters Rick Rauma and Mike Grennan recently received service awards for their years of dedication to the department.

Rauma, Deputy Chief of Emergency Medical Services, received a service award for 25 years of service with the department. Rauma was hired as one of the department’s first full-time firefighter/paramedics and has helped develop and coordinate a successful advanced life support program for the fire district.

Lieutenant Mike Grennan received a service award for 15 years with the department. Fire District 7 Commissioners and Fire Chief Richard Eastman also recognized Grennan for his service to our country. Grennan returned to work in June after completing his second year-long tour of duty in Iraq.

VISION 2040 draft released for comment

The Puget Sound Regional Council has released the draft VISION 2040, an integrated growth management, economic, and transportation strategy for the central Puget Sound region.

VISION 2040 addresses how the region can meet the needs of the anticipated growth of 1.7 million people and 1.2 million jobs by 2040, while also enhancing the region’s environment and overall quality of life.

PSRC is seeking public comment on the draft VISION 2040 and Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement. Comments received through September 7, ensure that public input is considered in a timely way.

PSRC develops policies and coordinates decisions about regional growth and transportation planning in King, Pierce, Snohomish and Kitsap counties. The Council is composed of over 80 county, city, port, transit, tribal and state agencies serving the region. It coordinates the distribution of about $160 million in Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration funds each year. PSRC sets priorities and evaluates the most efficient ways to target those funds to support state and local transportation and growth management plans.

Mill Creek resident earns scholarship from WWU

Brooke Lauren Clement, daughter of Roger and Nancy Clement of Mill Creek, received a $1,000 President’s scholarship for the 2007-2008 academic year from Western Washington University.

President’s Scholarships are awarded to approximately the top 8 to 10 percent of incoming freshmen and transfer students, and are based on superior academic achievement.

Clement is incoming freshman at Western and earned a 3.83 GPA from Henry M. Jackson High School. She was a member of the National Honors Society and played three years of varsity tennis. Clement plans to pursue a degree in environmental science at WWU.

Mayor hosts document destruction day

Mill Creek Mayor Donna Michelson and Shred-It, a document disposal service, are having the second annual Document Destruction Day from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Sept. 29 at City Hall.

Identity theft protection agencies recommend destroying any bank statements and ATM receipts that have been around for more than four years, expired insurance policies, cancelled checks and other personal information that you don’t need for tax or insurance purposes.

Bring any personal documents you wish to destroy and they will get shredded on site free. Residents from surrounding communities also are invited to participate in the event.
