Come voice your opinion about Aurora
The Shoreline City Council will hold a public hearing on the Aurora Corridor Project, North 165th to North 205th streets, at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 16.
The city council is scheduled to discuss and select a preferred alternative for the remainder of the Aurora Corridor Project at the 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 23, meeting in the Mt. Rainier Room of the Shoreline Conference Center.
Once the city council selects a preferred alternative, the city will prepare NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act) and SEPA (State Environmental Policy Act) environmental documents, which are scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. The next steps include design and right-of-way acquisition beginning in 2008 and construction is expected to begin in 2009.
The recommended alternative and environmental analyses are available for review at www.shorelineaurora.com. For more information, contact Aurora Corridor project manager Kirk McKinley at 206-546-3901 or kmckinle@ci.shoreline.wa.us. Translation services are available upon request.

Shoreline Wildlife Habitat project
What’s the latest “Buzz” in Shoreline? On Sunday, July 29th, bees, birds, and native flora and fauna will be officially welcomed into backyard habitats with a kick-off launch of Shoreline’s Community Wildlife Habitat project.
With a goal of certifying 500 backyard habitats and meeting other goals established by the National Wildlife Federation, the plan is to certify the whole city of Shoreline as a healthy habitat. Lake Forest Park became certified as a Community Wildlife Habitat in April and passed the torch to Shoreline. The public is invited to celebrate the beginning of the habitat project in Shoreline at the Kruckeburg Botanic Garden in Shoreline on July 29 from 2 p.m. to 5pm. There will be entertainment, refreshments, special guests and great raffle prizes.
Due to the shortage of parking at the garden, please park at the Richmond Beach Congregational Church at the base of the hill, entrance one block west of Richmond Beach Road and 15th Avenue Northwest. There will be a continuous free shuttle to the garden. For more information, please contact: birdsbeesfishtrees@gmail.com.
LFP and Shoreline National Night Out
The annual Lake Forest Park and Shoreline National Night Out Against Crime is on Tuesday, Aug. 7. The event is a celebration of neighborhood unity against crime and a great chance for neighbors to meet or get reacquainted.
Neighbors who are familiar with each other are more likely to watch out for each other. Some suggested activities for neighborhoods are potlucks, barbecues and dessert parties.
In Lake Forest Park, participant preregistration is required. Forms may be picked up at City Hall or mailed to interested parties by contacting Pam Martin, LFP Police Department’s crime prevention coordinator at 206-364-8216, ext. 545. Participants are required to return registration forms no later than Monday, July 30.
Block Watches and neighborhood groups in Shoreline are making plans for block parties and barbecues for National Night Out Against Crime. Questions about the permit application process or where to pick up signs may be answered by contacting Planning and Development Services at 206-546-1811. Taste of Shoreline at Energy Fair
The Shoreline Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the first Taste of Shoreline, to be held in conjunction with the Shoreline Solar Project’s Renewable Energy and Sustainable Living Fair at Meridian Park Elementary School on Saturday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Taste of Shoreline will be a chance for fairgoers to sample the many delicious menu items offered by Shoreline restaurants, diners and grills. Food will be available for purchase. An entertainment program of bands and dancers will be part of the event.
Although current members of the Shoreline Chamber of Commerce are given preference, all food merchants from Shoreline and surrounding communities are encouraged to participate in this event. This is an opportunity for them to introduce their businesses and showcase menu items to a large segment of the general public.
Member merchants wishing to participate may choose from three options: pay a booth fee of $300, retaining all sales proceeds from the merchant’s booth sales; pay a $150 booth fee and donate half of the sales proceeds from booth sales to the chamber; or the booth fee will be waived if the merchant agrees to donate all sales proceeds to the chamber.
Non-member merchants may participate by paying an additional fee equal to a corresponding annual chamber membership fee for their business. With the payment of this fee, non-member merchants will be offered a free one-year chamber membership.
For more information, contact the Shoreline Chamber of Commerce at 206-361-2260.
