Friends of the Library receive community award

At the second annual Friends of the Community Breakfast at Third Place Commons on Feb. 15, the Lake Forest Park Friends of the Library were honored.

Karen Edwardsen, the president of the Friends of the Library accepted the award from Karen True, executive director of the Friends of Third Place Commons and Bill Ptacek, Director of the King County Library.

The commons and the library have collaborated on almost 90 events in the commons including pizza and books, writers groups, discussions and presentations for toddlers, youth and adults. These programs included children’s activities, adult discussion groups, LFPReads program support.

The Friends of the LFP Library support literacy one book at a time. People donate books to the Friends of the Library. Volunteers sort through the books and put them out on the book shelf. The books are sold for 25 cents for paper backs and a dollar for hardbacks. The Library support group also runs two annual book sales. The funds are used for library supported programs.

Trails (oh my!)

The Echo Lake Neighborhood Association is meeting on Tuesday, March 20, at 7 p.m. in the Shoreline Center, Ballinger Room. Shoreline Parks Director Dick Deal, will discuss a major art installation for the Interurban Trail In Echo Lake Park, as well as the many projects the parks department is currently working on as a result of the successful Parks bond.

The two final stages of the Interurban Trail in Shoreline are currently under construction and soon the entire Shoreline portion of the Trail will be complete. Kirk McKinley, Manager of the Interurban Trail project, will be attending the meeting.

Baker-For-A-Day in Lake Forest Park

Great Harvest Bakery is sponsoring the third-annual Lake Forest Park School Baker-For-A-Day fundraiser on Saturday, March 24. One-third of the sales for the day will be donated to the Lake Forest Park School Student Council and the fifth-grade Outdoor Education Camp fund. Staff and students will be on hand throughout the day, providing sales assistance and even live entertainment.

Mark your calendar: annual plant sale

The Lake Forest Park Garden Club, WSFGC, will hold its annual plant sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 28 at a private residence, 5724 NE 190th Street. The sale will feature perennial favorites, annuals, shrubs, tomatoes, herbs and groundcovers. For more information, call 425-486-5568
