City’s annual Easter Egg hunt takes place April 7

The city of Mill Creek’s Parks and Recreation Department is having its fourth annual “Eggstravaganza” Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 7, at Heatherwood Middle School.

The free event begins at 10:30 a.m. with games and four age-appropriate egg hunts starting at 11 a.m. All four hunts will have special prize eggs and plenty of candy. Participants are urged to bring egg collecting baskets.

The event, for children aged 12 months through fifth grade, will take place regardless of the weather. Heatherwood Middle School is located at 1419 Trillium Blvd. SE.

The city is also collecting non-perishable food items to give to an area food bank.

Numerous local businesses community organizations are sponsoring the event, including The Enterprise Newspapers.

Registration for YMCA camp begins Monday

Open registration for YMCA of Snohomish County Summer Camp begins Monday, March 26, for camps offered through all five YMCA branches, including Silver Firs.

All YMCA camps focus on the development of the four core character values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. A wide range of summer programs are available for campers ranging in age from kindergarten through high school. The YMCA offers full-day programming and care for school-age children during summer months. Activities include age-specific crafts, games, sports, swimming, and weekly field trips.

The YMCA also is offering specialty camps on various topics like art, cooking, drama and golf. Other specialty camps include horseback riding, skateboarding, and sports camps.

Overnight camping adventures are offered for older children. These camps feature hiking, rock climbing, river rafting, canoeing, horseback riding, and outdoor camping.

Free senior social and resource fair coming up

Join other seniors for coffee, tea, goodies, and conversation at the Mill Creek Senior Center’s social and resource fair from 10-11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 5, at the Senior Office in McCollum Park at the Snohomish County’s WSU Extension.

The fair will cover Mill Creek Senior Center benefits and activities, including fitness, computer and support classes and day trips. Also, proponents of a senior center building in Mill Creek will talk about their efforts.

Pre-registration is requested and reservations can be made by calling the senior office at 425-357-6002.

Norwegian language classes offered

The Bothell Sons of Norway are sponsoring a Norwegian class for those who know how to speak some of the language, although those who don’t know any Norse words aren’t necessarily left out in the cold.

The group says if there is enough interest in a beginner level course, one can be offered.

The intermediate classes begin Tuesday, March 27, and continue every Tuesday through May 22. Classes are from 7-9 p.m. and are held at the Sons of Norway Lodge, 23905 Bothell-Everett Highway. Cost is $90 and parking at the lodge is free.

Baby-sitting safety class offered by parks

Mill Creek Parks and Recreation is offering a two-day class on baby-sitting safety next week.

The class takes place from 6-9 p.m. March 26 and 28 at Mill Creek Elementary School, 3400 148th St. SE. The six-hour class trains children in fourth grade and older to take care of younger siblings or other children. It will cover first aid, and a certificate is awarded upon completion of the course.

The instructor is Trudy Dana, a crime prevention officer for the city of Lynnwood and author of “A Parent’s Guide to the Care of Children at Home.”

Free parenting class offered at area church

Parents can learn simple, respectful parenting tools at a workshop on Monday.

This introduction to Positive Discipline is from 7-9 p.m. Monday, March 26, at Advent Lutheran Church, 4306 132nd St. SE. The intro class is free, and information about ongoing classes will be available.
