Chamber looking for items to mark 100th birthday

The Greater Edmonds Chamber of Commerce is asking the public for help in assembling an exhibit commemorating its 100th birthday this year.

The Chamber is looking for photos and memorabilia for an exhibit called “The Key to 100 Years of Success in Our Community.” Those with items to donate or lend are asked to contact Carolyn LaFave at 425-670-1496, ext. 3, or Carolyn@EdmondsWa.com.

Toast good causes

at Holy Rosary

Seven wines from three different wine-growing regions of the state will be the star attractions at “A Taste of Washington” charity wine-tasting event from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at Holy Rosary School.

Proceeds from the adults-only tasting will benefit the Holy Rosary School Endowment and Knights of Columbus charities. Tickets are $25 and are available at the door.

Play on: Public gets peek at playfield plan

A proposal to convert the athletic grounds of the former Woodway High School into multi-sport playfields will be discussed during a community meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, in the Commons of the former high school at 23200 100th Ave. W., Edmonds.

The meeting was planned by a partnership of youth and adult sports groups. The general vision of a year-around recreational complex at the Edmonds School District’s under-utilized site plus the chance for the public to offer suggestions are on the agenda, according to information from Edmonds Parks and Recreation.

deliver for you

Some folks were puzzled as to why city and state services were open but the U.S. Postal Service closed on Tuesday, Jan. 2, in honor of former President Gerald Ford, who died Dec. 26.

The Post Office is a corporation, to be sure, but it’s a government-owned one and considered a quasi-independent federal agency, according to Wikipedia. So when federal agencies are directed to close, that goes for the Post Office, too.

Wikipedia also boasts this trivia tidbit: The Post Office is the third largest employer in the United States behind the Department of Defense and Wal-Mart.
