program earns
grant award
The city of Mountlake Terrace’s Recreation and Parks Department “Kids Krew Program” has been awarded a $3,000 “Quality Enhancement Grant” from School’s Out Washington to enhance its afterschool program.
The Grant project is designed to improve the quality of Washington’s afterschool programs for children ages 5-12, particularly those from low-income families, communities of color and those with special needs.
Kids Krew Programs at the Mountlake Terrace Recreation Pavilion, Madrona K-8 School and Evergreen Elementary will be able to introduce a variety of new activities, which will empower participants to become lifelong learners as well as responsible world citizens.
“This grant will allow us to provide a wider range of materials and opportunities that support the’whole child’ including their physical, social, emotional and academic development in a safe, caring and fun environment,” said Darlene Cook, Youth Programmer for Mountlake Terrace Recreation and Parks, in a prepared statement.
School’s Out received 52 applications from across the state for the Quality Enhancement Grant, with requests totaling more than $147,000. Mountlake Terrace was among 21 programs to be awarded the grant.

Genealogy group meets Jan. 7
Sno-Isle Genealogical Society meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7 at the Mountlake Terrace Public Library, 23300 58th Ave. W., Mountlake Terrace.
Bring an heirloom, a vintage photo, and a good story for thepopular SIGS Show-and-Tell. Also, bring a goodie, an unusual item or even a white elephant for the silent auction.
Prior to the meeting, at 6 p.m., Margaret Summitt will help genealogists of all skill levels analyze their brick walls and suggest ways to progress toward finding elusive ancestors.
Visitors are welcome at the meetings and at the SIGS library, 19827 Poplar Way, Lynnwood, in the Humble House in the city of Lynnwood’s Heritage Park.
Airport’s future subject of meeting
Paine Field’s future will be on tap Jan. 8 when a delegation of state and local officials meet in Mukilteo.
Sen. Paull Shin and Reps. Marko Liias and Mary Helen Roberts will host a Town Hall meeting from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday at the new Mukilteo City Hall, at 11930 Cyrus Way.
The meeting will focus on expanded commercial passenger service at Paine Field.
Together with county and city officials, the district’s legislative delegation will facilitate a public discussion on this topic and answer questions from those in attendance. The meeting will include a briefing on the current status of the issue and what citizens can do about it.
Health clinics will cut hours in ‘09
Snohomish Health District will herald the new year with slimmer, trimmer services and increased fees beginning Jan. 2 in its tuberculosis and immunization clinics.
Clients may be eligible for a sliding fee scale on some services depending on household income and size. Find fee and service details posted at www.snohd.org.
Services, hours, and fees remain unchanged in the Health District WIC/First Steps Clinic and Sexually Transmitted Disease Clinic.
The health district’s Lynnwood Immunization Clinic, 6101 200th St. SW, Suite 100, will be open two days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.
The last appointment will be scheduled at 4 p.m. Walk-ins should expect to wait, but will be worked in as possible.
Tuburculin Skin Tests will be given and read in the Lynnwood Immunization Clinic by appointment. Effective Jan. 2 all other TB services will no longer be available at the Lynnwood site, but will be offered on weekdays in Suite 200 of the Everett location.
