Bring soccer into your home

A whole bunch of soccer coaches are coming to Mill Creek to teach kids the finer points of the beautiful game, like passing, dribbling, heading and sportsmanship, so kids don’t head-butt a trash-talking opponent.

The coaches are part of Challenger British Soccer Coaches, who will be conducting youth soccer camps from July 24-28 and Aug. 14-18. The coaches will be staying with host families while they are in town.

If you are interested in hosting a coach in your home for one week and live near Mill Creek, contact Chris at 425-921-5736 for more information.

Families who host a coach will receive a discount toward their child’s participation fee. As for lessons outside the camps, arrange that with whatever coach you host.

More details about the camps are located in the Mill Creek Recreation Guide or online at www.cityofmillcreek.com.

Recreation ideas wanted

The city of Mill Creek is looking to add some new classes to its recreation program. If you’ve got an idea for a class you would like to see offered or are an instructor who would like to teach a class, give recreation assistant Chris Bailey a call at 425-921-5736.

Pathways to help

The YWCA is seeking help to ensure that area children have plenty of back-to-school supplies and enough food to eat.

The YWCA’s Back to School program provides clothing and school supplies. Through this program sponsors can adopt homeless, very low-income children and provide school supplies and clothing for the child to go back to school in. Call Luanne Kunz at 425-258-2766 to sponsor a child or for additional information.

In addition, Pathways for Women YWCA currently needs food for its food shed to share with their families. Items they are low on are: jams, jellies, Jell-O, canned meats, spaghetti sauces, macaroni and cheese, snack items, dried fruit, rice in small containers, peanut butter, cereal, dry or canned milk and desserts. Call Elizabeth Franklin at 425-774-9843, ext. 224 for questions concerning Pathways’ needs.

Around Town is a weekly feature of the Mill Creek Enterprise dedicated to happenings in and around the community. Photos from the community can also appear in this space. For more information, contact John Santana at 425-673-6533 or e-mail him at millcreek@heraldnet.com.
