Garden club gears up for spring-time

The Mill Creek Garden Club will have its first Spring 2008 Program of the season at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan.8, at the Mill Creek Country Club.

Lee Buffington and Loretta Meisburgerk, owners of “Sweet Grass &Garden” in Renton, are scheduled to attend and offer advice about making and personalizing items for your yard and home.

Passion for crafts was part of the reason Buffington and Meisburgerk opened their store two years ago. They create mosaic birdbaths, copper trellis, spring wreaths, rustic planters, sedum bowls, bird feeders, hanging baskets and a lot more.

Membership in the Mill Creek Garden Club is open to all interested gardeners, both serious as well as social gardeners.

Annual Garden Club dues are $25. The luncheon costs for members is $18 for members and $20 for guests. For reservations or more information, call Marla Nulph at 425-918-1669.

Seminar explores human trafficking

Community members are invited to attend a series of classes on human trafficking from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesdays between Jan. 16 and March 26 at North Creek Presbyterian Church.

On Jan. 16, presenter Sarah Sweeney, will introduce the audience to a four part study on human trafficking. Movies and documentaries also will be presented followed by a question and answer session on eradicating global slavery. 140th to be closed in January

The Snohomish County Department of Public Works is advising residents that 140th Street SE/SW between Cascadian Way and Meadow Road, will close for approximately two weeks beginning Jan. 14.

The closure will allow construction crews to install utilities and make frontage improvements for the Bella Terra plat. Cascadian Way will return to full operations or a single lane closure. For more information, contact 425-388-6453.

Library district seeks volunteer for ADA group

Sno-Isle Libraries is seeking a representative from Snohomish County to serve on the Library District’s Americans with Disabilities Act Advisory Committee.

The citizen-based, volunteer committee provides advisory assistance to the Sno-Isle Libraries Board of Trustees and staff in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The committee consists of three residents from Snohomish County and two from Island County. Committee members must either have a disability or represent an organization that serves the disabled population of the Library District.

The committee reports directly to the Sno-Isle Libraries Board of Trustees with regard to recommendations and assistance in ADA compliance.

Interested candidates may submit a letter of intent to the Sno-Isle Libraries Board of Trustees, 7312 35th Avenue NE, Marysville, WA 98271. Letters must be received no later than Jan. 15.
