Adults and children are invited on the day before Mother’s Day to appreciate and experience art together and to support the Edmonds Center for the Arts.

Thirty artists — all mothers — were selected to participate in the 4th Annual Art of Our Mothers exhibit at the Edmonds Center for the Arts, including the top three awards and two honorable mentions to be featured in the mezzanine of the ECA. The Art of Our Mothers show spotlights the artist-mother, the woman who is both an artist and a mother and how the creative spirit affects her children and grandchildren.

“The quality of the art was exceptional,” said Manya Schilperoort of Kindred Circle Gallery and chair of the jury. “We were able to select pieces from outstanding artists that will be a pleasure for families to enjoy together.”

The artists will take part in the one-of-a-kind, mothers only art show that was established to highlight the work of western U.S. artists who are also mothers. The artists’ children are invited to describe their mothers and their art — creating a unique opportunity for parents and children to experience and enjoy art.

The show opens Saturday, May 12 and runs through Sunday May 20. On May 12, the Saturday before Mother’s Day, a special Family Day will be hosted from noon to 5 p.m. Children and adults attending the exhibit will be asked to cast a ballot for their favorite work.

The Kids’ Award and Adults’ Award, as well as a special Edmonds award presentation, will be presented by representatives from the Art of Our Mothers’ generous sponsors, Edmonds John L. Scott Real Estate and First American Title.

The art will be available for sale to benefit the Edmonds Center for the Arts.
