The 1939 building that has been transformed into the new Edmonds Center for the Arts (ECA) is making history once again with its first Arts Crush event — a fundraising event featuring entertainment, a lively auction, fine wine and cuisine.
Tonight, Friday, Nov. 9, arts supprters will gather at the theater for “the event of the year,” according to Arts Crush steering committee member Maria Montalvo.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a wine and hors d’oeuvre reception and silent auction in the ECA lobby, accompanied by live jazz from local musicians Sam &Dave. At 6:30 p.m., Northwest recording artist, Robert Vaughn performs in the auditorium. After the performance, dinner will be served and the live auction will commence with John Curley, of KING 5 “Evening Magazine.”
“ECA is a first-class venue and the perfect place to celebrate the arts,” said Victoria Trimmer, the ECA’s development director. “This event will help generate much-needed funds for the new center and for the development of new programs, not to mention the fact that it will be a terrifically fun evening.”
Trimmer said that the auction catalog is growing daily with packages that include travel, lodging, dinners and other opportunities. Bidders can raise their paddle for a hand-crafted granite indoor water wall, a Holland America Cruise, a Rick Steves-inspired trip to Europe, a sunny stay in the Caribbean, or choose from an assortment of original art. A jewelry piece from Comstock Jewelers valued at $5,000 will also be raffled that evening.
Arts Crush will feature a commemorative magnum of wine that is produced especially for this event. A limited edition of Reininger cabernet sauvignon with a custom label that has been etched and hand-painted featuring the likeness of the Edmonds Center for the Arts building and the Arts Crush logo will be available at the event.
Donated by Reininger Winery of Walla Walla, the cost of the original custom label has been underwritten by Arista Wine Cellars of Edmonds. The “Made in Washington” theme is enhanced with the table centerpieces -– hand-blown glass bowls crafted locally which will be available for guests to purchase.
“There are things you can do to make a real difference in a community and the restoration of this historic building into an intimate performing arts center is just such a project,” said ECA board chairman Mike Popke. “I believe Edmonds Center for the Arts will be a focal point for Snohomish County for years to come. Edmonds is known for its charming way of life and I see the theater as an anchor to the culturally rich environment that is cherished here.”
