Archbishop Murphy High School

The junior forward scored 21 of his game-high 28 points in the second half to help lead the Wildcats to a 78-67 victory over Cedarcrest in a winner-to-state 2A District 1 boys basketball tournament game Feb. 28 at Mount Vernon High School. Melton then scored a team-high 16 points in Archbishop Murphy’s 64-63 victory over Sehome in the third-fourth place game on March 1.

Jackson High School

The senior guard set a Class 4A state tournament scoring record with a 43-point performance in a 77-74 loss to Skyview on Feb. 28 at the Tacoma Dome. Kingma also scored a game-high 27 points in the Wolfpack’s 63-57 loss to Moses Lake in a first round game on Feb. 27. The University of Washington bound recruit was named to the all-tournament, first-team.

Winners are selected based on results of events involving athletes from the 11 high schools covered by the four editions of The Enterprise Newspapers.
