The Edmonds-Woodway senior standout scored 13 of her game-high 26 points to lead the Warriors to a 54-52 victory over Monroe in a Western Conference 4A girls basketball game Jan. 5 at Edmonds-Woodway High School. The Warriors and Bearcats were tied at 25 at halftime before Edmonds-Woodway went on a 10-5 run in the third quarter. The Warriors then outscored the Bearcats 19-12 in the fourth quarter. The returning all-league point guard is averaging a team-high 14 points per game this season. Edmonds-Woodway finished the week 3-3 in the Wesco South Division and 8-4 overall.

The Edmonds-Woodway junior recorded three straight pins en route to a successful defense of his heavyweight title at the Edmonds Invitational wrestling tournament Jan. 7 at Edmonds-Woodway High School. Johanson, who finished second at the Wesco championships last year, pinned Oak Harbor’s Raymond Quinday at the 4-minute, 35-second mark of the finals. In his earlier matches, Johanson pinned Meadowdale’s Aaron Yared at 3:36 in the opening round and then he beat Oak Harbor’s Jackson Constant in 1:14. “My conditioning was up and my technique got a lot better,” Johanson said of Saturday’s victories.
