Margreet Barhoum

Meadowdale High School

The senior standout scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Mavericks to a 68-46 victory over Everett in a Western Conference 3A girls basketball game Jan. 13 at Meadowdale High School. Barhoum, an all-league selection, scored 11 of her team’s first 20 points as Meadowdale jumped to a 20-3 edge over Everett. She is averaging a team-high 18 points per game. The key to the game was the tough full-court defense the Mavericks played to start out the first quarter. “That’s kind of what we feed off is each other’s energy and that really helped us in the first quarter,” Barhoum said. The Mavericks improved to 5-5 in the league.

Noah Cuzzetto

Edmonds-Woodway High School

The sophomore wrestler recorded four straight pins en route to a first-place finish in the 113-pound division at the Everett Classic Jan. 14 at Everett High School. Cuzzetto pinned Everett’s Christian Bagdadi in the finals. A day earlier, Cuzzetto defeated Moses Lake’s Chase Clasen by a major decision and then pulled out an 8-7 decision over Snohomish’s Gino Obregon in a double dual meet at Snohomish High School. “I’m pretty close to the top of my game,” Cuzzetto said. “I think I have a good shot at state.” Cuzzetto currently is ranked No. 1 in the Class 103-pound division, according to the state-wide Washington Wrestling Report.
