Dylan Merrill

Edmonds-Woodway High School

The sophomore earned medalist honors and helped lead the Warriors to a team victory in the Edmonds District boys golf tournament March 23 at the Nile Golf Course in Mountlake Terrace. Merrill shot a 35 at the par-33 meet (nine holes). The season is going well for Merrill. “I’m finally fitting in somewhere,” he said. “Everything is working out for me. Everything is just clicking this year. … The most I’ve shot over par is two. Everything else has been under par or even par or around that.” Merrill was introduced to the sport by his grandparents. He’ll be visiting them during spring break in Palm Springs and plans to play golf every day.

Jessica Gott

Lynnwood High School

The sophomore pitcher helped lead the Royals to a pair of victories over Glacier Peak and Marysville Getchell in Western Conference 3A softball action. Gott scattered eight hits and allowed just one run as Lynnwood defeated Glacier Peak 3-1 on March 21. She then threw three innings in a 13-1 rout over the Chargers in a March 23 contest called after five innings. “She’s mixed it up real well,” Lynnwood coach Matt Rockne said of Gott’s peformance. “She keeps the ball down. That’s good for our infield.” While Gott doesn’t strike out many batters, she has great control and doesn’t walk many batters, Rockne added.
