Austin VanderWel

Archbishop Murphy High School

The junior quarterback ran for a touchdown and threw for another score to help lead the Wildcats to a 14-7 victory over Cedarcrest in a Cascade Conference football game Oct. 16 at Terry Ennis Stadium. VanderWel scored on an 8-yard run in the second quarter and then threw a 16-yard pass to Tani Tupou on a fake field goal play with 25 seconds left in the game.

Leigh-Ann Haataja

Jackson High School

The junior outside hitter recorded 17 kills and nine digs as the Timberwolves beat Glacier Peak 25-12, 23-25, 25-14, 27-25 in a Western Conference South Division volleyball match Oct. 15 at Glacier Peak High School. Haataja also had 12 digs and seven aces in the Wolfpack’s 25-20, 25-14, 25-9 victory over Lynnwood Oct. 13 at Jackson High School.
