Auto Show food drive benefits Union Gospel Mission

A food drive to restock the pantry at the Seattle Union Gospel Mission Mens Shelter is being held during the five-day run of the Seattle International Auto Show at Qwest Field Event Center.

Non-perishable food items, including canned and bulk foods such as vegetables, rice and pasta, are being collected at the Event Centers three showgoer entrances: the mezzanine level of the Qwest Field Event Center parking garage, the far north entrance to the Event Center, and at the Occidental Street entrance.

Because of the success of last years opening day food drive at the Auto Show, this years drive will run all five days of the event: Wednesday through Friday from noon to 10 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Were very grateful that the Auto Show organizers thought to include us and the citys homeless in this event, said Rev. Herb Pfiffner, Executive Director of Seattles Union Gospel Mission. We know Seattle cares about homeless men, women and children, and this food drive is a great opportunity for people who love cars to show their concern and community support.

The Seattle Union Gospel Mission, now in its 72nd year, feeds more than 1,200 meals a day to hundreds of homeless people, including men, women and children. The Missions landmark facility is its Mens Shelter located at 318 Second Ave. South, near Pioneer Square.
