Greet the new school year with a special Back to School Hands-On Day event at the Shoreline Historical Museum from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22.
At 11 a.m. Richmond Beach librarian Leslie Carter will read a back-to-school story, followed by learning the traditional harvest craft of making cornhusk figures, as demonstrated (at right) by Helen Oltman at last year’s event. These figures often served as toys for grandparents, great-grandparents and their ancestors up until the mid-20th century. Children may take home their completed craft.
The event is free and open to the public. The Shoreline Historical Museum is located at 749 N. 175th Street in Shoreline. Call 206-542-7111 for more information.
