This time it counts.

After two successful prior attempts at baking giant cinnamon rolls, the House of Bread bakery in Mill Creek Town Center is going for a place in the Guinness Book of World Records this weekend.

The goal of Saturday’s effort is to bake a cinnamon roll weighing more than 250 pounds, an effort store owners Wayne and Anita Warren plan to submit to Guinness for inclusion in its record books.

In preparation for Saturday, House of Bread has obtained a record claim number and a set of guidelines from Guinness, and has determined that all of the guidelines can be fulfilled. Guinness requires officials to certify the ingredients, edibility, size and weight of the roll. House of Bread has obtained commitments from two volunteers from the Washington State Department of Agriculture to perform these certifications.

Another Guinness requirement is that the event be done in public. So the store is inviting the public to view the roll’s construction from 9 to 11 a.m., its baking from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., its removal from the oven, cooling, icing and formal weigh-in from 1-2 p.m.

The roll will then be served to the public, and charitable donations to Redmond-based Hopelink, which serves the homeless and low-income families, are being requested. Money for Hopelink will also be raised through raffles for prizes donated by other Mill Creek Town Center retailers.

The store’s most recent attempt to bake a giant roll took place on Aug. 13, which was served to the public following an informal weigh-in. The practice roll weighed more than 250 pounds and measured 6 feet across.

To bake this single-piece roll, House of Bread solicited the services of Ottercraft, a Kingston boat builder, to fabricate a 6 foot square baking sheet that slides into the large rotating rack oven used by House of Bread for its daily production.

For the children, there will be a ventriloquist, and the “Cinnamon Roll Olympics,” played with cinnamon rolls instead of balls or pucks, with prizes for the winners.

House of Bread is located at 15224 Main St., Suite 105, in the Park Place Center building in Mill Creek Town Center.
