Bernheim great addition to council

I had to chuckle at Mr. Philbrick’s letter last week warning us all about Councilmember Bernheim’s sinister motives in his desire to prevent us from polluting the air and wasting gas, especially while waiting in the ferry line. (“Bernheim won’t stop at idling measure,” April 18) At about $3.50/gallon for gas, I’d think Mr. Philbrick would thank him for “tapping on the window of my big black pickup and telling me not to idle the engine excessively.”

While the failed idling measure may not have been Mr. Bernheim’s greatest council moment, I want to commend him for having the courage to present it to make a point and I also want to congratulate him for frequently playing the devil’s advocate against some prevailing attitudes often presented by other city politicos. In my opinion, Councilmember Bernheim is a shining example of what a City Council member should be and I plan to volunteer to help him get re-elected when the time comes.

Thanks for your service to the community, Mr. Bernheim.
