Big Lots, a Columbus, Ohio-based chain of 1,300 stores, opened a 17,500-square foot store in Everett Aug. 29 at 7725 Evergreen Way. The store offers seasonal and one-time bargains by buying merchandise from more than 3,000 manufacturers at a discount and selling at a discount typically 20 to 40 percent less than discount stores and up to 70 percent less than traditional retailers. Types of items include lots bought as a result of packaging changes, cancelled orders, product discontinuation, test market products or a need for removing excess inventory. The Fortune 500 company has stores in 47 states and is the nation’s largest broadline closeout retailer for furniture, houseware, toys, gifts and consumables.
