Those who want to learn about aerospace manufacturing now have a new opportunity.

Edmonds Community College is rolling out a new Associate of Applied Science-T (transfer) degree in Aerospace Manufacturing. The degree starts students on their way to a university, and gives them a working foundation in an area of expertise, beginning with several technical classes in their first two years.

A new Lean Manufacturing class offered this fall counts toward the degree or may be taken on its own. The class will teach lean manufacturing methods (also known as the Toyota production system) applicable to a variety of industries. Wally Davis, a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt and former Director of Quality for a local computer hardware manufacturer, teaches the class.

Other classes offered this fall as part of the Aerospace Manufacturing degree include materials science classes, Introduction to Materials Science and Introduction to Composites, as well as business classes such as Project Management.

TRIAD II/Advanced Manufacturing grants offer up to $5,000 for tuition and books to students interested in earning the Associate of Applied Science-T in either Aerospace Manufacturing or Materials Science.

Grants may also be given to students studying for a composite technician or project management certificate who plan to work in the advanced manufacturing industry.

Classes run from Sept. 22 through Dec. 11, and enrollment is open now. For more information, call Edmonds Community College at 425-640-1039.
