Board threatening children’s education

I am unclear how a panel of experts such as yourselves failed to understand how this one day strike and the associated furor would not have occurred. This is one of the most well-organized districts of parents and teachers. The parents understand what is happening in the schools. The teachers are not some distant person we choose to not interact with. The teachers are viewed as an integral part of our lives. If the teachers are unhappy, the parents are unhappy. By deciding to not discuss the restructuring with the community, you give yourselves the reputation of dealing in a decidedly dishonest fashion.

I doubt that any of you has a hidden agenda. I would hazard to guess you are 100 percent committed to the welfare of the district, teachers, students and families. However, I do believe that you are too close to the topic at hand and have lost sight of why you are here: The education of my children. This isn’t about your lack of ability to budget, this isn’t about your inability to communicate, this is about my children. I am going to react strongly when my children are threatened. You are threatening my children by saving a couple of bucks that you squandered in the first place. You may not have been on the board when the money was squandered, but you are the board now and you are responsible. The children of this community deserve to be instructed as they have always been instructed.

I realize I am not offering any solutions, but look for me at the next board meeting. I will be the one asking all the hard questions. My first question might be: Should we restructure the board without asking you? Maybe move you to a new venue? I’m sure the Shoreline Grease Monkey would love to host the board for a year. You don’t operate in a vacuum. You are accountable to me and my community.
