EVERETT — The Boeing Co. plans to move engineers and office workers in the supplier management and propulsion systems divisions from Everett to Bothell and Bellevue early this summer.
The move is necessary to clear room for a new building to make carbon-fiber components for the 777X wings at the Everett plant at Paine Field, Boeing spokeswoman Kathleen Spicer said.
The site is already being prepared for that building’s construction, which is scheduled to start in November.
The airplane maker recently signed eight leases — six in Bothell and two in Bellevue — covering several hundred thousand square feet.
The Bothell leases are only for three to five years, said Dick Paylor, a commercial real estate broker with NAI Puget Sound Properties, which was not involved in the deal. Paylor wasn’t aware of the terms for the Bellevue leases.
“As a general matter, you don’t usually find leases of that size for that short time,” he said.
Spicer would not comment on the duration of the leases.
So what is Boeing’s long-term plan for those jobs? Will the displaced workers return to the Everett facility?
“Regarding plans to bring employees back to the site — these plans are still to be determined,” she said.
