Braille Camp 2008 at the Louis Braille School in Edmonds begins July 14 and will run 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays through July 25. Children who have visual impairments are provided with academic and recreational activities, including crafts, games, braille and math reviews, a field trip and visitors.
This year’s highlights include the Parade of Puppies from Guide Dogs for the Blind and a performance by Curley Cooke, a former member of the Steve Miller Band.
Campers bring a sack lunch. Tuition is $250. Assistance is available.
The school is at 10130 Edmonds Way in Edmonds, about two miles from the beach and ferry terminal.

Rotary honors MLTHS students
The Alderwood-Terrace Rotary club recently honored Mountlake Terrace High School students of the month who have been selected throughout the school year.
Certificates for those students were presented by principal Greg Schwab, who also gave certificates to students of the year.
The students of the month are: Sophie Pingul, Rhett Bouche, Ji Mun, Matt Beeninga, Megan Runkel, Eli Blaisdell, Demi Boe, Enrique Dominguez, Lael Swanson, Tim Maass, Cari Smith, Ben Walters, Gagan Kaur, Anden Hormann, Emma Fritz, Alex Ramsey, Erin Taylor, Nick Berry, Kylie Flood and Brett Somers.
The students of the year are Matt Beeninga, Megan Runkel and Emma Fritz.
Elementary teacher wins Fulbright
Teacher Jennie Warmouth of Spruce Elementary has been awarded a Fulbright Teacher Exchange grant to teach in Scotland. Warmouth is one of about 450 U.S. citizens who will travel abroad for the 2008-09 school year through the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program. Teacher Heather Inglis from Scotland will take Warmouth’s teaching position at Spruce for the school year.
The Fulbright Program is sponsored by the United State Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
Student art project at Meadowdale High
Meadowdale High students and teacher D’Arcie Beytebiere have worked extensively this year on an art project that is now prominently displayed behind the front desk in the school’s main office.
With funding support from the Edmonds Arts Festival Foundation and Meadowdale High School, Beytebiere, her stained glass students and several staff members created a 4-by-8 foot panel of glass tiles.
District accepting applications online
The district’s Human Resources department now has an online application process for people interested in working for the school district. The district is now accepting online applications for all open classified positions, aside from substitute jobs and some seasonal work. All remaining positions will be converted to the new application system during the next school year.
