Granite club hosts tourney

Many of the top curlers in North America will be at Seattle’s Granite Curling Club to kick off the first World Curling Tour event of 2004. 

Fifteen teams will be competing for $6,200 in prize money starting today and continuing through Sunday, Jan. 4. Admission is free for all matches. First round games will be played at 4 and 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 2.

Seattle’s Ryan Yalowicki rink will look to defend its title against top-level teams from the United States and Canada.

The club is located at 1440 N. 128th Street in North Seattle.

ATM kicks off league play

The Archbishop Murphy boys and girls basketball teams kick off Northwest 1A League play with a doubleheader against Orcas Island on Tuesday, Jan. 6 at Archbishop Murphy High School.

The girls play at 3:15 p.m. and are followed by the boys at 4:30 p.m.
