Reading wins one of three
Jackson’s Mike Reading won one of three matches at last weekend’s Class 4A state boys tennis singles championships. Following a 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (8) first- round loss, Reading rebounded for a 6-2, 6-1 win over Garfield’s Avi Allison. Reading then was eliminated by Auburn Riverside’s Kyle Schraeder 7-6 (5) 6-0. Teammate Alex Yee also won one of three matches, defeating Enumclaw’s Garrett Engeset 6-1, 7-6 (6) in a consolation match.
ATM baseball team falls
Archbishop Thomas Murphy was knocked out in the first round of the Class 2A state baseball tournament.
LaCenter rallied for a 2-1 victory May 28 at Martin Stadium to send the Wildcats (15-10 overall) packing.
This was Archbishop Murphy’s first appearance at the Class 2A tourney. The loss snapped a three-game postseason winning streak.
Kane takes eighth place
Archbishop Murphy’s Mitch Kane finished in a tie for eighth at the Class 2A state boys golf tournament. Teammate Christine Wemhoff played in the girls tournament.
