Duo reaches state tourney

Sean Fitzpatrick and Ryan Young of Mill Creek qualified for this week’s 29th Washington Junior Golf Association state tournament in Wenatchee.

Fitzpatrick, 16, shot a two-round 153 to finish in a four-way tie for third in the boys 16-17 division at the District 1 tournament, July 18-19 at Snohomish Golf Club. Young, 16, earned the 10th and final state berth with a two-round 159.

Also qualifying were Francis Santiago and Kimberly Santiago of Lynnwood. Francis, 16, shot a two-round 152 to place second in the boys 16-17 division at the district tourney. Kimberly, 10, finished second in the girls 8-11 division with a 104 over 18 holes.

NW Redhawks finish seventh

The Lynnwood-based Northwest Redhawks U16 fastpitch softball team placed seventh at the National Softball Association national tournament in Utah. Coached by by Jamie Malijan and Emily Hauenstein, the Redhawks were the last Washington club in the bracket and eliminated four teams, including the defending champions in extra innings.
