SCCS player headed east

Snohomish County Christian School senior Tara Holgate has made a verbal commitment to play basketball for Eastern Washington.

Holgate led SCCS to the Class B state tournament last year and was named the MVP of the all-star state game in Spokane last spring.

In her junior year, Holgate average 14.7 points, 11.2 and 8.0 blocks per game. The 6-foot-5 center will redshirt her freshman season at Eastern.

EdCC grad earns honor

Western Washington University forward Ryan Hopp has been named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week for Sept. 26-Oct. 2.

The Edmonds Community College graduate had four goals in leading the Vikings to three wins over Far West Region opponents last week. Hopp already has 12 goals this season, six of them game winners.
