City recruiting for two boards

The city of Mill Creek is seeking members for the Arts/Beautification Advisory Board and the Board of Appeals and Adjustments, according to the city’s website.

The arts board deals with design issues, special events and other arts-related matters as they come up. The board meets at 4 p.m. the third Wednesday of every month at city hall. Members should be residents or own and/or operate a business in Mill Creek.

The Board of Appeals and Adjustments is a quasi-judicial body comprised of five members, who are appointed for three-year terms. Four members shall be qualified by experience and training to pass upon matters pertaining to building construction and other pertinent matters. Any Mill Creek resident may be appointed to the fifth position.

This board hears appeals related to the interpretation by the city building official of fire and building codes, as well as other areas related to zoning laws and appeals. Meetings are held as needed.

For more information, call city clerk Kelly Hennessey at 425-921-5732.

Resident wins set of new appliances

Mill Creek resident Kelly Crane won the grand prize, a suite of Whirlpool Energy Star appliances – a refrigerator, dishwasher and clothes washer – in the Snohomish County Public Utility District’s recent Energy Savers prize drawing.

Several thousand customers entered the contest, in response to a special PUD conservation mailer in early December, which also included energy-saving tips, coupons for low-wattage holiday lights and other resources.

County road work update

Work on a sewer main on 164th Street SE will close that road east of 35th Avenue SE starting today. It is in effect between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. until Feb. 20.

One lane of traffic on Seattle Hill Road between 35th Avenue SE and 148th Street SE is closed during the day so construction crews can do repaving work.

Weather permitting, the work will take place until Feb. 27 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Civil Service meeting canceled

The city of Mill Creek has canceled the Feb. 12 Civil Service Commission meeting because of a lack of business. The next meeting is scheduled for March 11.
