Ceremony to celebrate gateway
A ceremony to celebrate Shoreline’s “The Ponies” Gateway is scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday, March 1 at Ronald Bog Park. The city received the sculpture from an anonymous donor and it was dedicated in September 1998. Developing gateways is a city council goal and $100,000 is included in this year’s Capital Improvement Program for construction of two gateways. A second gateway will be built at 175th Street on the southeast corner of the Interstate 5 interchange.
Lake Forest Park to host forum
A community forum to address the future of the Towne Center is scheduled for 7-9 p.m., Thursday, March 4, at Third Place Commons, 17171 Bothell Way NE. The forum is entitled Sustaining a Livable Lake Forest Park and will explore how to strengthen and enhance the economic and social viability of the city’s commercial areas, particularly the Towne Center. A task force, which has been studying community sustainability issues, will present its findings and citizens are encouraged to join in the conversation about the future of the Towne Center. Shoreline Police offer academy
The Shoreline Police Department invites citizens to take part in this year’s “Citizen’s Academy.” Classes will be held 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, March 23 through May 25 at the King County Sheriff’s Office Precinct 2 in Kenmore. The program is designed by the King County Sheriff’s Office and Shoreline Police to increase understanding between citizens and the police department. The class is limited to Shoreline residents and those who work in the city of Shoreline. Class size is limited and will be filled on a first come, first serve, basis. Applications are available at the main Police Station and Neighborhood storefronts. The class is free. For more information, contact Sgt. Council recognizes education
At the Feb. 23 Shoreline city council meeting, representatives from the School District and Shoreline Community College were recognized for their contributions to education. In 2004, the Shoreline School District celebrates its 60th birthday and Shoreline Community College celebrates its 40th birthday. Mayor Ron Hansen proclaimed that 2004 is the year to celebrate “100 Years of Excellence in Education.”
