Edmonds resident

wins quilt award

“Polar Prowler,” a quilt created by Edmonds’ Patricia M. Goffette, has bested more than 400 entries from around the world and has been named one of 52 winners in the American Quilter’s Society’s 19th Annual Show and Contest held in Paducah, Kentucky in late April. The initial field of quilts came from as far away as Ankara, Turkey, and Seoul, South Korea.

“Polar Prowler,” a depiction of a polar bear, joined 419 other semifinalists from the 2003 competition on display for an estimated crowd of more than 30,000 over the four-day run of the show.

Measuring 71 inches by 51 inches, the home sewing machine-quilted work was judged an outstanding example of a pictorial wall quilt made by a professional or amateur quilter.

Goffette’s quilt joined 419 other semifinalist quilts on display at the annual show.

Deputy City Clerk

earns designation

Linda Hynd, the city of Edmonds’ deputy City Clerk, recently earned the designation of Certified Municipal Clerk, awarded by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC).

The IIMC is a nonprofit organization that provides educational opportunities and professional development for its 10,300 members worldwide. It grants the CMC designation only to those municipal clerks who complete demanding educational requirements-including more than 100 hours of in-depth courses and technical training and who have a record of significant contributions to their local government, community, and state.

Linda has an extensive background in court reporting, including working in administrative positions. She is a member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, Washington Municipal Clerks Association, and the Snohomish County Clerks and Finance Officers Association. Hynd has been with the city for three years. She joins 125 active municipal clerks in the state who currently hold the CMC designation.
