Mill Creek growing fast, census says

Mill Creek is the third fastest growing city in Washington, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates.

The city has an estimated population of 12,554 people, a 5.2 percent increase from July 2001 to July 2002. It is the third highest growth rate in the state, according to the survey. Issaquah had the state’s fastest growth rate at 7.6 percent, followed by Bonney Lake in Pierce County at 7.3 percent during the same time period.

Mill Creek’s growth rate was also the highest in Snohomish County. Arlington grew at a rate of 4.2 percent, and Marysville saw its population increase at a rate of 3.3 percent. All three cities are among the top 10 fastest growing communities in Washington.

Program rummage sale needs items

The Greater Mill Creek Senior Program is collecting items for its rummage sale in July 31 and Aug. 1 at the Northshore Senior Center in Bothell. To help and/or donate, call the senior office at 425-357-6002.

All proceeds go to the senior program and donations are tax deductible.

Olympus HOA car show is canceled

The Olympus Homeowners Association in the Mays Pond area has canceled a car show it had scheduled for Aug. 10.

Senior trip to Snoqualmie Falls

The Greater Mill Creek Senior Program is sponsoring a day trip to Snoqualmie Falls and the Northwest Railway Museum.

The trip is set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 23 and is open to all. Cost is $6 for program members, and $9 for non-members. Lunch is not included in the trip cost.

Babysitter program at YMCA

KidSitters, a program being offered by the Northshore YMCA, is a program for children 11 to 16 years old to earn a babysitter’s certification from Evergreen Healthcare certified instructors.

Children learn about child development, good nutrition and feeding, proper hygiene and bedtime tasks, first aid and emergency guidelines. The six-hour class is Saturday, Aug. 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and costs $30, which includes a book and ID certification card (program member fee may apply).

Night out set for McCollum Park

South Snohomish County’s Night Out Against Crime, part of the National Night Out program, is set for 6-9 p.m. Aug. 5 at McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE.

The event will include a picnic, tug-of-war, baseball speed pitch, dunk tank, BMX racing and numerous other activities. In addition, J.P. Patches will make an appearance.
