Tree lighting set for Monday
The city of Mill Creek’s official Christmas tree lighting ceremony will take place at 6:45 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1 at City Hall, 15728 Mill Creek Blvd.
In addition to the tree lighting, entertainment will be provided by the Jackson High School Jazz Band and first grade classes from Penny Creek Elementary School.
City gets grant for Dumas upgrades
The city of Mill Creek received a $3.195 million grant from the state Transportation Improvement Board on Nov. 21 for the Dumas Road Improvement Project.
The project includes widening the existing lanes, adding a center turn lane or landscaped median, curbs and gutters, street lighting and stormwater facilities. In addition, sidewalks separated from the road with a rock garden will be built.
With the grant award, the city will now finalize the project plans and specifications with construction tentatively starting in late spring 2004.
Part of road will temporarily close
164th Street SE east of 35th Avenue SE will close to through traffic during daylight hours starting next week. Local access will not be affected.
The closure will take place between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Monday, Dec. 3 through Dec. 17. The closure is being done so construction crews can install a sewer main and road improvements in conjunction with a new subdivision.
Livestock advisors sought
The Washington State University Cooperative Extension in McCollum Park is seeking volunteers to be livestock volunteers.
Eighty-hour winter training sessions begin in mid-January with applications due Dec. 30. Training covers all aspects of livestock raising and maintenance. For more information, or to request an application, call 425-338-2400.
Civil service meeting canceled
The city of Mill Creek’s Civil Service Commission will not meet in December because of a lack of business.
The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Jan. 8.
