SHORELINE

Dylan Burnett-Lewis wanted the 3A District 1 meet record in the javelin and he got it.

The Lynnwood junior won the event with a throw of 185 feet, 2 inches to break the old mark of 184.

“That’s what we were shooting for,” said Lynnwood javelin coach Wael Abou-Zaki. “We wanted 190 coming in. It would’ve been nice. We’re excited. We’re looking good going into state.”

Burnett-Lewis, who placed third at the state 3A meet last year, has a personal record of 187-10.

Burnett-Lewis is ranked second in 3A behind Robert Hintz of Bellevue who has a mark of 190-1. Burnett-Lewis, who has a season-best throw of 187-2, beat Hintz at the Shoreline Invitational last month.

“I know I got another 10 feet on my throw,” he said.

Lynnwood junior Alex Williams finished second in the 110 hurdles in 15.53 seconds to earn a trip to state.

“Good enough to get to state but I felt slow,” said Williams, whose personal record is 15.48.

Williams finished second to Everett’s J Hopkins, the state leader in the event, who won in 14.9.

Last year, Williams qualified for state but couldn’t make it because of a school trip.

This year he’s looking forward to going to Pasco.

“I’m really excited,” Williams said.

Senior Renee Gittins, Meadowdale’s lone state qualifier, took second in the triple jump with a leap of 33-7.5 to earn a trip to Pasco.
