On a sunny, warm day at Shoreline Stadium, Lynnwood’s Dylan Burnett-Lewis found a way to shine.

The junior came into the Shoreline Invitational as the top seed in the javelin and won the event with a throw of 183 feet.

His mark was more than four feet off his best this season 187-2 but he felt good about his effort.

“I felt it was a pretty good day,” Burnett-Lewis said. “It was a nice day out. My run-up felt good.”

Burnett-Lewis recently shortened his last series of steps by two steps to give him more speed and power.

“It’s a lot more explosive,” he said.

He finished sixth at the Pasco Invitational on a cool windy day with a throw of 176 on April 19.

“Much better than last week,” said Wael Abou-Zaki, his javelin coach. “He was consistent today.”

Burnett-Lewis placed third at the state 3A meet last year. His goal this season is to make the podium again and break the school record of 204, which was set in 1985.

Edmonds-Woodway’s Antoinne Wafer placed fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 50.27 seconds and seventh in the 200 with a time of 23.13 seconds.

Calvin Grover of Edmonds-Woodway finished seventh in the 800 with a time of 1:59.77.

The Warriors’ 800-meter sprint medley team of Noah Martin, Andrew Rasmussen, Reid Sullivan and Braydon Nealey finished sixth in 1:38.22.

Edmonds-Woodway finished 24th out of 60 teams that scored points with a total of 12 points. Lynnwood tied for 27th with 10 points, all from Burnett-Lewis.
