Two Lynnwood businesses have been recognized by the Snohomish County Public Utility District for contributions to energy efficiency. NetRiver and GVA Kidder Matthews were both recently honored with the 2010 Puget Sound BetterBricks Awards for energy efficiency projects at their facilities.

NetRiver received a BetterBricks award in the “Building Operator/Manager — Team” category for a range of efficiency measures, which have saved the business 1.5 million kilowatt-hours annually — the largest PUD energy efficiency project in 2009.

The Lynnwood data center’s efficiency efforts are saving the business about $110,000 through lower energy bills.

“Installing high efficiency equipment is not only important from a business and cost-recovery standpoint, but from an environmental standpoint,” said Paul Harris, general manager.

GVA Kidder Matthews property manager Earl Wayman received a BetterBricks Finalist Award in the “Facility Manager/Building Operator” category. He manages the Alderwood Business Center, a 200,000-square-foot complex located in Lynnwood.

The business center has completed a collection of projects spanning more than 20 years, including lighting retrofits, HVAC system and control upgrades and retro-commissioning. The buildings have received Energy Star certification.
