Call for young writers: The Edmonds Arts Commission hosts its 10th annual Youth Writing Contest for students who attend a school within the Edmonds School District boundaries or who have an Edmonds home address. Students in grades 9-12 may enter poetry and short fiction, and students in grades 7 &8 may enter poetry. This year’s theme is “Lost.” Fiction entries must be a minimum of 250 words and no more than 1000. All submissions must be original work and not previously published outside the student’s school. Call for poets: The Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council invites submissions for a juried poetry contest in conjunction with its first annual Poetry Month Celebration April 19 at Shoreline Community College Theater. Contest winners will be invited to read their poems during the event, which features readings by published Seattle poets Anna Maria Hong and Peter Pereira. Work will be judged in three separate divisions: Secondary Student (grades 7-12), College Student, and Non-Student Adult.
