LYNNWOOD — A man arrested for a series of bank robberies in Winnipeg, Manitoba, could be the same man responsible for robbing the Bank of Washington here earlier this year.
Lynnwood detective Doug Teachworth was watching a local newscast Sunday when he saw a story about a Canadian manwho was arrested for a bank robbery in Winnipeg.
The man on the surveillance video resembled the suspect who robbed the Lynnwood bank in the 5900 block of 196th Street SW Jan. 29. The suspect, described as a heavy-set white man in his mid-40s, left the bank in a Jaguar.
Lynnwood detective Jerry Riener obtained footage of the Winnipeg robbery and confirmed that the suspect in the case closely resembled the Lynnwood robber.
Detectives also learned that the man had been in the Seattle area at the time of the Lynnwood robbery and was known to drive expensive rental cars.
Lynnwood detectives are working with Canadian authorities to determine if the man is responsible for the robbery at the Bank of Washington and any other robberies in the state.
