The Edmonds Fire Department was dispatched to 75 calls in and around Edmonds the week of Nov. 17-23, which brings this year’s call volume to 4,539. Medical crews evaluated 59 patients; fire crews responded to 16 incidents.

Medical Responses

Use caution when pets are underfoot. A 78-year-old fell and hit her head after being thrown-off balance by her cat. The patient was transported to Stevens Hospital with superficial scalp lacerations.

An employee of a long-term care facility was exposed to an unknown powder while loading a washing machine. The patient was wearing a mask and gloves, but the powder entered her eyes. After flushing her eyes at the facility’s eye-wash station, the patient was transported to Stevens Hospital.

Fire Responses

A car ran into a building. Not once last week, but twice on the same day.

The first mishap was on Highway 99 where a vehicle drove into a billiard building. The reporting party claimed that it smelled like wires were on fire inside the wall. A Lynnwood engine responded, along with an Edmonds air crew. No injuries were found.

Less than two hours later, downtown Edmonds filled with a blue/gray smoke — the result of burning rubber from spinning tires. This time, a car had crashed into the Edmonds Arts Center at approximately 17 miles per hour. The building did not appear to be damaged, but several plants were in tatters. The driver was transported to Stevens Hospital.
