Every week your political illustrator, Rik Dalvit, skewers Christine Gregoire for some perceived lack of ability to govern our great state. For The Enterprise to be considered fair and balanced, it should be the first to congratulate Governor Gregoire for her many accomplishments highlighted in the latest “Governing Magazine” at Governing.com.

Governor Gregoire appears on this month’s cover and was awarded one of the top nine 2007 Public Officials of the Year. The article highlights her many accomplishments. In this political climate, where every scrap of paper is “classified”, she was honored for one of the most transparent governorships in the United States: She also runs one of the most open state governments in the country. Her Government Measurement, Accountability and Performance (GMAP) initiative includes regular meetings featuring frank discussion among top state staff about various agencies’ performance. The meetings are open to the public and the press. House Minority Leader Richard DeBolt stated in the article, “We’re not always ideologically aligned, but I think she’s a good manager and that she’s doing a good job of running the state.”

To keep government accountable to the people, transparency matters. No matter what your partisan politics, we should all look forward to her reelection in 2008.
