On a wet, rainy, sloppy night at Everett Memorial Stadium, Cascade stormed past Shorewood, shutting the Thunderbirds out 49-0, Friday, Oct. 16.

The Bruins racked up 396 rushing yards as Chris McGrath, Dominique Moore and Aaron Miller each had two touchdowns.

“They did a great job of running the ball and we were playing catch-up and were forced to throw the ball a bit,” Hershey said. “They really like to get the ball outside and sweep and use their speed. We were trying to force them back inside and counter with people coming off blocks and we didn’t do that enough,”

On offense, the Thunderbirds’ threw an interception which McGrath returned 29 yards for a touchdown.

“They did a good job of taking advantage of our mistakes,” Hershey said.

Hershey said he’s trying to get his team to focus on things they can control as opposed to what the other team does, no matter how fine that football team is.

Shorewood hasn’t had a .500 team in more than half a decade and the lull continues, although Hershey’s seen improvement out of some underclassmen.

“We had a lot of great effort out of some folks we have sophomores we have doing well,” Hershey said. “Eugene Holley (strong safety) and Duncan Henderson (free safety) are getting better.”

“Talent does ebb and flow but we have some good football players and we’re not playing up to our capabilities,” Hershey said.

The T-birds will be challenged again when high-flying Glacier Peak brings its spread offense to Shoreline Stadium on Friday, Oct. 23.
