Cascade Symphony presents ‘Colors and Passions’

Cascade Symphony Orchestra’s 43rd season of musical adventure, “The Essentials,” highlighting great masterpieces of classical literature and virtuoso soloists, continues Monday, Feb. 28 with a concert titled “Colors and Passions.”

The evening’s program features Revueltas’ “Sensimaya,” R. Strauss’ “Concerto in D Major for Oboe,” with guest oboist Nathan Hughes, Ravel’s “Mother Goose Suite – Five Pieces for Children” and Khachaturian’s music from the ballet “Spartacus.” At the podium is Music Director Michael Miropolsky.

The concert takes place at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28 at the Mountlake Terrace Performing Arts Center, located at Mountlake Terrace High School. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, available by calling 425-745-5921.

The next concert in the series, “Tragedy and Victory,” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 25 and features works by Moussorgsky, R. Strauss, Saint-Saens and Shostakovitch.

The symphony makes a special appearance at Benaroya Hall May 23 for a program titled “A Celebration of Edmonds” highlighting work by Shostakovich, Saint-Saens, Bizet and Tchaikovsky. A portion of this event’s proceeds are pledged to the new Edmonds Center For the Arts.
