Will Hall, chair of the Shoreline Planning Commission, is running for a seat on the Shoreline City Council.

“I’ve been serving on the commission for five years,” said Hall. “This is an opportunity to contribute at a higher level.”

As a member of the commission, Hall played key roles in the 2004 comprehensive plan update, the 2005 critical areas update, and in drafting the new vision for the city.

Hall and his wife, Laurie, have lived in Shoreline for nine years.

“Shoreline is a great place to live, with great schools, great parks, and great public services,” he said. “I want to preserve and enhance these assets, even as more people and businesses move here.”

Hall filed with the Public Disclosure Commission to run for Position No. 3 against incumbent Janet Way. He believes a new approach will help the community come together and solve issues in a more open, constructive way. He wants to improve the trust and cooperation between the City Council, the Planning Commission, and the community.

“Leadership,” according to Hall, “is bringing people together and balancing different viewpoints, not taking sides.”

Dealing with growth is one of Hall’s priorities.

“Planning for the right kind of growth in the right places is the best way to prevent it from happening in the wrong places,” he said.

Economic issues are also at the top of the agenda.

Currently an advisor to the Snohomish County Council, Hall has ten years of local government policy and budget experience. He also owns a small consulting practice focused on state and local environmental efforts.

Promoting transportation alternatives is another priority. Hall wrote a resolution that was adopted by the City Council to promote cooperation between transit agencies on bus rapid transit.

A former teacher, Will values great schools and recently helped Everett Community College and Western Washington University partner to launch new degree programs in Everett.
